I play electric guitar dance music. It's the guitar that grabs the listeners attention, but it's the bass that makes people dance. As a soloist, I need an instrument that can fulfill the function of both a guitar and a bass simultaneously, because it's important to me to be able to perform my music live. I play sitting with the guitar between my legs. My picking hand hovers loosely over the strings, playing in a modified flamenco style, with my thumb and all four fingers engaged in up and down strokes. I knew as soon as I saw the Roscoe 7 String Bass, it would work perfectly for my style. The body is small and asymetrical, allowing the instrument to easily sit at an angle between my legs, while keeping the end of the neck within comfortable reach. And the string spacing is narrow enough to allow my picking hand to play the lowest and highest string at the same time, but wide enough to allow me freedom of movement.	My first Contra 7, I have named ' Unity '.
The range spans the 4 string bass, and over 3 octaves of the standard guitar. I use multiple altered tunings, so to be brief, my lowest note may be the D just below the E of the bass guitar, and my highest note is an A#/Bb at the 24th fret. Contra, is a musical term meaning,"pitched lower than normal,"often an octave. Being tuned an octave lower, and with 4 of 7 strings in the standard guitar range, I have chosen to call my instrument the Electric 7 String Contra Guitar, or Contra 7 for short. My Roscoe Contra 7s are a dream come true for me. Not only are they a blast to play, but they sound fantastic no matter how I have the tone adjusted. I have played many wonderful instruments, but the Roscoe is the only one that matches the sounds I hear in my head.
